Project Kindness is a new faculty mentored Einstein Student Affairs initiative under the direction of the Student Activities Office. Our mission is to help medical students nurture their humanistic qualities though a volunteer in-patient visitation program.

Project Kindness is an outgrowth of change. Human factors change. Our goal is to rekindle those stars in upper classmen's eyes while keeping those stars shining for lowerclassmen. Medicine is changing; demands on your time will be very different than doctors of yore. While your choice to come to medical school might have been driven to “save the world,” the realities of medicine as a business quickly come into play.

So what is Project Kindness and what can it possibly do to make a difference in your world? Project Kindness, simply speaking, is a ‘citizen’ student-patient hospital volunteer program. You volunteer to visit patients at Einstein Campus-Weiler Hospital for no purpose other than to give of your time to improve a patients experience while they are in the hospital. NO WHITE COATS ALLOWED. This is about you getting to know your patient using your interpersonal skills.

We will support you with monthly optional lunchtime programs so you can learn more about being a good communicator. Specialists tackle the hard questions such as what to do when a patient asks if they are going to die, says they hate G-d, or starts crying asking you to take care of their family when they are gone. If these visits don’t keep the stars in your eyes aglow, nothing will.
